Perfectly imperfect, vintage and antiques bear small chips. These “imperfections” are part of the charm of handmade pottery — proof of their long journey through time.
Passed down from one generation to another, each object is an testament to the legacy of handmade crafts.
This hand-painted ceramic plate takes inspiration from the formal composition of the 17th century Chinese porcelain imports that captivated Europe at the time.
A column divides the border of the plate into six even sections. Each section holds a plump flower similar to a peony. A set of concentric bands delineate the central vegetal motif.
While cobalt blue dominates the decoration, a soft green fills in the foliage and orange and brown serve as accents throughout.
Dated based on the artist’s monogram on the back of the plate.

This cache is an ode to the artisans who came before and a bow to those who continue their legacy today.
Hand-thrown and hand-painted in southeastern Spain, this large decorative plate boasts the shape of the classic 13th century Valencian charger.
The composition — well-defined rim, border and center — is another tell. Inspired by 13th century Valencian lusterware, artisans continued to rework the same patterns for centuries after. Here the painter takes inspiration from the typical lusterware plate where the border features a geometric pattern of decorative elements – lines or miniscule flowers – that radiate outward from the center.
Painted in cobalt blue with accents etched with an ultra-fine brush, the design balances the geometric pattern on the border with a playful floral motif in the center.
