Fajalauza Lebrillo Serving Bowls

Handpainted in a family-run workshop in southern Spain, this Palmera Fajalauza Medium Serving Bowl features a large palm branch in the center. An abstract motif of whirling shapes covers the walls of the basin.

This bowl, known as a fuente semillana is a traditional ceramic piece that has been widely used in Spain for centuries. In addition to its practical uses, the large serving bowl has also become a symbol of Spanish culture and a popular decorative item used to adorn shelves and walls.

Fajalauza ceramics are especially famous for their intricate designs and vibrant colors, which are inspired by the rich history and culture of Granada. These painted fuentes are highly prized by collectors and make excellent gifts or decorative pieces for the home.

Our Granado Fajalauza Lebrillo Serving Bowl in Green is handmade and hand-painted in southern Spain. This serving bowl has the same shape as our traditional Spanish lebrillo: a flat base and slanting walls that form a trapezoidal form. While the lebrillo is a  thick-walled vessel, this serving bowl known as fuente semillana is lighter and leaner. Historically used as tableware, this Fajalauza classic is a prized decorative object. Displayed on walls and shelves, this large Spanish serving bowl brings its own unique charm to any space.   

Bearing the emblem of its namesake city, this Granado Fajalauza Serving Bowl features a pomegranate tree on the base.  The slanted walls of the bowl are covered in wispy vegetal motif resembling rushes.

This large serving bowl features one of the oldest colors in the Fajalauza palette, dating back to the 16th century birth of this enduring ceramic tradition.

Like the traditional Spanish lebrillo, this large serving bowl is another descendant of its Caliphate era. Dubbed “fuente semillana” o “plato semillano,” this flat-bottomed bowl has inverted cone-shaped body and rounded border. 

Its predecessor, the ataifor, was frequently decorated in gold paint and usually occupied the center of the table. 

This Fajalauza bowl was usually filled with fruits, salads and other foods. 

Given its intricately decorated surface, this large serving bowl is sometimes used for display on shelves or walls, in a similar way as the lebrillo.

Fajalauza motifs often feature granada or pomegranate, the namesake of the city that has sustained this pottery tradition. Other themes include native Andalucian plants – water lilies, sunflowers, daisies, and palms – and songbirds such as peacocks, spotless starlings, and spotless gray herons).
