A Feast for the Eyes
While plates are perhaps the first eating vessel we think of when we think of a meal, they have never been purely utilitarian.
Even the Romans, who streamlined their tableware production across the empire with molds, appreciated ornamentation.
The Hispano-Arab kingdom that thrived in southern Spain for over 500 years was especially adept at decoration. Employing the infinite possibilities of geometric motifs, vegetal patterns and kufic script, they produced earthenware plates that, though functional, was sometimes chiefly ornamental.
Today we still make plates in much the same way. The forms have evolved but the appetite for vibrant colors and intricate patterns remain.

A Beloved Collector’s Item
Modern interior design has embraced the legacy of decorative ceramics with renewed vigor. Simple, sparsely painted plates and bowls continue to make their way to the table while more ornate bowls and plates outgrow their functional roles.
Done in extra-large sizes, plates and platters lend a striking decorative affect as a singular display. Placed among other items, it is bound to stand out.
While suitable as tableware, beautiful ceramics transcend their functional role. They transform ordinariness into a thing of beauty.
A little incision in the clay facilitates hanging.
