Gorrión Spanish Ceramic Vase

€135.00

This charming vase eschews the traditional campaniform shape. Flat-bottomed, its body tapers upward to a very short neck before widening out to its mouth and spout.

The decoration falls within the traditional Castilian tradition of landscape painting on pottery.

Handpainted in careful detail, this  scene springs to life: we distinguish shrubs from grass and olive trees with their ancient trunks. An inquisitive sparrow — gorrión — whose plumage shows lively strokes of yellow and orange pauses amid the bushes.

Circular bands in green, orange and yellow distinguish the main composition while a smaller frieze done around the neck of the vase plays a curious trick on the viewer. Here, some elements seem to be an extension of the larger painting while others seem to suggest a distinct composition.

Dimensions: 13 × 21 cm | 5.12 x 8.3 in

Care: Dishwasher safe, hand-wash preferable
