Fajalauza in Yellow

This traditional Spanish serving bowl transcends its culinary function and has become a beloved decorative object, sought after by collectors and homeowners.

Our Ajedrez lebrillo-style serving bowl is a classic example of the Fajalauza ceramic tradition: brilliant colors and  intricate patterns. Known as a “fuente semillana” in southern Spain, this flat-bottomed bowl is made in the same shape as the heftier traditional lebrillo.

A geometric design similar to a chess board covers the base of the bowl. 

In keeping with the rich repintado style of Fajalauza, the painter has covered the bowl from base to rim. 

Though this sumptuous bowl has traditionally been used as a centerpiece or fruit bowl, it has transcended its culinary function as collectors and homemakers adorn their walls and shelves with both fuentes and lebrillos.

Its base features a wide-eyed bird prancing among the branches of a pomegranate tree bursting with fruit. This lush design recalls the traditional Andalusian patio or courtyard, lush, teeming with flowers and fruit trees.

Painted by hand in a small family workshop in southern Spain, this yellow ceramic bowl boasts a stunning design that covers its surface from base to rim. 

A large radial motif spreads out across the bowl. This central motif is a design of flowers within a flower. The artisan has filled the larger bloom with small renditions of pomegranate branches, leaves and tear-drop buds. An undulating pattern covers the walls.

This round Maricruz Serving Bowl is a testament to the ancient yet thriving tradition of Fajalauza craftsmanship. 

Made in various sizes, this design is also available in blue and green.

Dubbed “fuente semillana” this flat-bottomed bowl has an inverted cone-shaped body and rounded border. 

The Granada Lebrillo Serving Bowl features a large pomegranate and flowers on the base and concentric patterns adorn the walls of the vessel. Filled with fruits, this large bowl makes for a pretty centerpiece. 

In keeping with the traditional style of Fajalauza ceramics, the design is lush and features native Andalusian flora.
