Traditional Uses of Ceramic Bowls
Extracting color from natural pigments was an extremely arduous task.
Up until the 18th century, traditional Spanish pottery typically held a decorative palette of four or five colors. Artisans extracted a variety of blue hues from cobalt and green from copper. Brown and black were extracted from manganese oxide.
And, of course, tin-white glaze was indispensable.
Yellow, a cheerful accent that highlighted special details in pottery, came from iron oxide.
Derived from the Spanish word “miel” for honey, this melado or honey-colored yellow produces vibrant tones ranging from yellow to orange.
Nowadays, we produce custom Fajalauza ceramics in about 18 different colors.
