This earthenware plate is the result of a medley of influences. Its main motif, the 6-point star, is a common geometric pattern in Moorish-style ornamentation and a blue and white color scheme inspired by 17th century Chinese imports.
While these decorative plates share the same general composition, the artist has endowed each piece with its own distinctive detail. One plate shows petals filled in with a plumed motif, the other features a cross-hatched pattern. Within this flower, a set of concentric circles delineate the central design: a smaller flower that either repeats the hatchure or thick blue petals.
Signed by the artist, mid-20th century.
